Punctuation & Spelling Sections

• The punctuation and spelling sections of the test require students to select answers A, B, C, D, or N.

Grammar Section

• The grammar section requires students to select answers A, B, C, D, or E.

Comprehension Section

• The comprehension multiple-choice questions require students to select answers A, B, C, D, or E.
• The free-response questions require students to type words or phrases from the text exactly as presented in the test. It is crucial that children type words and answers accurately, as misspelt words will be marked incorrect, following the standards of the actual SEAG exam. Exceptions apply to parts of speech like nouns, verbs, etc., so it might be beneficial to provide children with a list of these spellings to ensure they can spell them correctly in the test.

Numeracy Section

• The first 22 numeracy questions are multiple choice and require children to select answers A, B, C, D or E.
• The remaining 6 free-response numeracy questions require ONLY NUMBERS. No characters other than numbers should be entered in the answer box.

We recommend using the Digital Transfer Tests alongside paper-based practice papers. Feedback from parents and schools who used the Digital Transfer Tests last year indicated that many children found the digital papers interesting and motivating. As a result, some parents chose to use them when their child’s interest or motivation was beginning to decline.

Many families then incorporated the digital papers into their weekly practice schedule. For example, completing one digital paper per week and one paper-based practice paper per week provided a good balance. This approach ensures that children are regularly exposed to SEAG-style questions, while also helping to keep them engaged and motivated.

Below is an outline of how we recommend beginning with practice papers:

• Level One Practice Papers: January–February of Primary 6

• Level Two Practice Papers: March–April of Primary 6

• Level Three Practice Papers: From Easter onwards

It is important to remember that you know your child best. If you feel your child is not ready to begin practice papers as early as January or February, that is perfectly fine. They will not be at a disadvantage.

Level One and Level Two papers are designed to help identify any gaps in knowledge, giving you time to address these areas before your child moves on to the more challenging Level Three papers.

Every question has been designed by experienced teachers with a strong understanding of the Key Stage 2 curriculum, who have also prepared pupils for the transfer test for many years. Our mock tests closely replicate the format, question styles, timing and level of difficulty of the SEAG exam, providing pupils with realistic and effective practice.
